Violet Hill

Anybody listened to Coldplays new album yet? It’s an amazing album, really.
Coldplay - Violet Hill

Was a long and dark December
From the rooftops I remember
There was snow
White snow
Clearly I remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze down below
When the future’s architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show
You’d better lie low
If you love me
Won’t you let […]

Beat of My Heart

Now I know what it feels like - to have one milligram too much of adrenalin injected into your veins. Feeling like another step uphill will push your heart so far you wouldn’t survive. Like the world around you is slowing down and your internals are twisting at the speed of light - over the […]

The Director Who Cried ‘Fire’

Last week we had a fire alarm at the office. No body moved a muscle. Five minutes later, the receptionist announced that it was a false alarm So, a notice was issued by our director that the Emergency Response Plan that the company had spent hundreds of valuable HSE man-hours on preparing will be […]

Stickies

This is a very simple digital post it app that serves people suffering from short-term memory loss (like myself). You can have these notes “On Top”, you can color-code them by project or by priority, you can even share notes on the network with people working on the same project.  You can set the opacity […]

Day In, Day Out

A few days agoFriend: “WHY do you go to the gym??”Me: “Because of the 6-foot-6 blond Scandinavian girl who comes there…”Today, that Scandinavian girl left with a (easily) 70-year old guy who, if the father or uncle, was eternally inappropriate.

Work

Since I came back to work this past Sunday, I’ve been working on improving work efficiency. Yeah I know how weird that sounds. But it’s really exciting to be wasting time on coming up with efficieny-improving techniques than actually working.Anyway, I was looking around on the internet to see what other people have written about […]

Bachelor

I don’t know what it is, but I seem to emit some sort of ‘brother radiation‘. This causes an intolerable and very uncomfortable degree of confusion when I compliment a girl on something - they seem to think that I’m just being frank or socially pleasant. As you can imagine, this puts me in a […]

A Tale Without A Beginning, An End, or Reason

Someone once said to me that to make a point, you need to do away with humor. This post serves as a testament that I can dispose of all humor, and still not make a point. As I entered the building, I noticed the ample parking space available today, compared to the cramped, double parked area […]

Doesn’t Remind Me

Okay, so I guess going from Audioslave to Om Shanti Om will take some time. But I’m making progress, I only listened to “Ajab Si” from Om Shanti Om, and “Jab Se Tere Naina” from Saawariya today Kher, today I suddenly remembered this song, and although this isn’t completely me, but there’s this little […]

Karachi!

Ah at long last! After six months I’m in Karachi, and loving every humid, electricity-less moment of it! I am so happy that the sky is not blocked by suffocating high-rises everywhere! Even the lung-eating smoke from the ridiculously old buses and trucks tastes good! Although I have a feeling that this particular affection […]

For Someone

What I felt, I wrote for you,And not a word that bled! The scathe on my heart,Dried with an impotent weep,Stretched across an eon! But I know now,What I wrote for you,Was just ink on paper;Given beauty only with the spreading of colors! For someone.

Tag

Okay, I’ve been tagged for the same tag by two people: SAWJ and Rabia. And since I’m lazy about tags, or rather about blog posts (heck, I’m lazy about everything :P), I’ve been putting it off. But in the spirit of not having to be tagged a third time for the same one, here I […]

Power of Music

DISCLAIMER: ANY PERSON WITH ANY FRACTION OF MENTAL BALANCE SHOULD STOP READING AT THIS POINT.I had planned on not thinking about it. But for how long can you run from something? Something happens, or someone says something, or you hear a far-off tune, or sense a smell somewhere, and it all comes rushing back in […]

Behind It All

Behind the million-watt decorations, the multi-billion dollar road networks; behind the giant glass houses and tons of metal horses; behind the glitter of dozens of ‘worlds firsts’ and ‘worlds largests’ - behind it all, this place is still a desert at heart. And on a totally unrelated note, saw this beautiful mosque in Sharjah the other […]

Lonely

The thing about feeling lonely is that if you tell someone about it, they’re gonna want to talk about it. Then why would you possibly feel lonely if you could talk to someone about it in the first place? So - better not to say “I’m lonely” to anyone. Ever.

Elevators

There is something about double doored elevators that makes me uncomfortable. I get the feeling that on some floor, the wrong set of doors will open up and I’ll have to walk through them out of courtesy, and fall a couple meters down and break something. Something important like a neck or back.http://xkcd.com/175/

Ego

Five years ago, about this time of the year (or maybe a few weeks past), I was in my A Levels, applying to different Universities, both in Pakistan, and abroad. Need

One of the reasons why success comes after failure is that we become more willing to compromise on more things after each successive failure, to be able to attain success. In a way, failure becomes a balance between compromise and will, and success the achievement of that balance.- Unrelated -They say there are five stages […]

Jobs

Receptionists make me sad. Not that it’s a bad profession, it’s not. They work hard on the job, and most of them are good at what they do. And for big companies, the job is not as simple as might seem at first thought. It’s just that when they’re on the job, they can’t be […]

Bad Day for The Suits

Fear

I have a theory. About why people care. For one thing, I don’t think people care, in the perfect sense of the word. Why do people care what other people think of them? Or even should they? As I said, in the perfect sense of the word, we don’t. The only thing we really care […]

The Question

The biggest question in life isn’t one to life itself. It’s not even about why the chicken crossed the road, if that’s what you’re thinking, although for some that is a sufficiently close approximation. I think the question that matters most in this world is ‘Will it happen to me?’. That is the one question […]

Truth
