I have finally been able to match for a post graduate training position here. It has been a long winding road with a seemingly good end. Thank Allah for all His mercy. Thank you for all the valuable prayers.

Pakistan released an Indian spy who had been convicted for his spying missions in the country. Our minister stood with him hand in hand, elated with success and pride dripping from his face. He thought he had done a job that will make him a place in the midst of those who are known for their humanitarian work. His gesture is OK. It is neither good nor bad. A spent weapon is worth getting rid of. But it becomes all the more difficult when this same spent weapon spits malice for the very people who brought him freedom. He doesn’t waste any time in telling his nation that he has been a hero who kept mum while he was with the enemy. I think he needed to do this to ward off the suspicions of his own countrymen. But this has turned into a whole lot of embarrassment for Burni who thought he had championed the cause of humanity by winning Singh’s freedom.
The Indians were quick to thank us. They thanked us in no uncertain terms by brutally torturing and then killing in cold blood a Pakistani prisoner and handing over his body after one whole month. I guess it is the very Indian way of saying gracias to its neighbours. Pakistanis all over the world and Mr. Burni should take note for they have been made to look like assholes by the Indian attitude. Well done Musharraf and Burni. So much for your confidence building measures.

Imran Khan has suddenly disappeared from the media. Either he is being ignored or he is ignoring. But he briefly appeared on the BBC Radio today and said what he had to say. He is as clear as ever before and has stated his stance with even more vigor. He says that he will keep on trying for the restoration of the judiciary. He will wage a struggle for the people’s resistance. He will be the voice of the people. And he knows the power of the people is with him.

In the election results of the year 33 former ministers who were closely associated with Musharraf have lost their seats. PML-Q has suffered losses to the seats of those who were stalwarts of the previous administration and were thought to be close to Musharraf himself. the results express more so a disgust and hatred with Musharraf and anything even closely related to him. Otherwise PML-Q has been able to win seats of those members who were not closely associated with Musharraf. So we can safely conclude that this is a an anti Musharraf vote and not a pro PPP or PML-N or ANP vote.
In other news the Govt. is now thinking of letting go of the Chief Justice of Pakistan who has been kept under illegal house arrest since November 3, 2007. Aitizaz Ahsan was freed not until the last minutes before election and now Chief Justice’s imminent freedom spell something very fishy. What was so important about him that he was not released before elections? What special situation has arisen now that he is being let go? Is it that this move by Musharraf is meant as a sign of bargain that Musharraf would want to do now for saving his seat. Musharraf might use this gesture as that of good will when he he is on the table with the winners and negotiating his seat.
The other thought could be that PPP, Musharraf and PML-N were complicit in keeping the Chief Justice of Pakistan under house arrest. It is only logical since the Chief Justice represented a serious threat to any future plans of these leaders and their pathetic parties. He was a symbol around whom the nation was gathering and becoming one. He was a symbol of reform and peaceful revolution. His lawyers’ movement symbolised everything good a Pakistani ever wanted. Therefore it is only natural that he was perceived as a threat by any corrupt politician in the land. So all of them thought it necessary that he be kept away from the pepole while they made their choices in elections.
I must also note that some of the younger ministers and members of parliament have also lost their seats. To note some Omar Ayub Khan and Farooq Laghari’s son, both of whom were ministers of the cabinet and were thought to represent the young of the nation and thus something new. They however proved as corrupt as their fathers and as inefficient in running the ministries as anyone else in the PML-Q. They have been silenced, atleast fot eh time being.

Election results are pouring in. One of the results that i am impatiently waiting for is that of chief minister sindh Ghulam Arbab Rahim. I wrote about his corruption just a few days ago. Results from all the adjoining constituencies in sindh have been declared but that of his constituency remains unavailable. So much so that there is no mention of his constituency in the reports. No progressive results no nothing. I think that he is trying his best to manipulate the results and atleast save his seat.
More upsets have occured since i last wrote onthistopic. More routing of PML-Q has taken place in different parts of the country. But they have gained just sufficient seats to partner with PPP to form a simple majority Govt. in the center and in Balochistan. Similarly, to my utter dismay, MQM has a sizeable majority in sindh and will partner with PPP to form a coalition Govt. Altaf Hussain has been quick to offer his seats to the highest bidder in syaing that his party has forgotten all previous rivilaries and is ready to work with a host of parties for forming Govts. MQM in doing so is playing a part no different than its script in the previous elections.
UPDATE: Sheikh Rashid has run away from the country. According to media reports Sheikh Rashid has left the country for Spain after his humiliating defeat.

Mozilla Firefox has been a love at first sight for me. I stumbled upon the browser at Usman’s place. Used it once and fell in instant love with it. It is way better than Internet Explorer 6 and 7. For one thing it loads pages faster and this enhances my web experience. For the other it can be customized to fit individual needs and likes and dislikes. The number of useful Add-ons is simply remarkable and each better than the other. It has been some time since I installed FireFox on my computer and since then I have been actively adding things to it.
Zotero is one such tool of help that i find very useful. It has effectively taken away the need for a stand alone research tool. Zotero is a easy to use plug in that helps you collect, manage and cite research sources. It works from within the browser and integrates with almost any application. It has been brought to us by Center for History and New Media and George Mason University.
Zotero features automatic capturing of citations from within web pages, storage of PDFs, files, images, links and whole web pages, flexible note taking, playlist like library organization and formatted citation export to many formats. Best of all it is free to use.
The interface is very simple yet very comprehensive. The usability is fantastic and i recommend it to anyone who gets his/her hands wet in research and needs to make citations in the work, both scientific and in the field of arts.
I have provided a link to Zotero in my external links section you can download it from there.
Firefox can also be downloaded from the right hand pane.
